Project Location

Mullaitivu District.

Beneficiaries

This project will primarily work with psychosocial service providers to support men and women facing psychosocial challenges.

Project intervention

The project seeks to provide psychosocial support to affected women and men in the Mullaitivu District. The primary aim of the project is to establish a network of psychosocial service providers, to offer individual counselling and other support for those affected by trauma, domestic violence, and poverty. The first intervention is to establish a network of psychosocial service providers, including training them in psychosocial support from subject experts. It also involves organizing awareness raising programmers to educate the community and other key stakeholders about the importance of psychosocial well-being. The second intervention is to provide individual counselling sessions for affected women and men. This is followed by establishing a safe referral system, for those needing to access health care and social service providers. Furthermore, community-based initiatives will be introduced to address the root causes of psychosocial issues in the selected areas. Finally, the third intervention is to increase the capacity of women and men for income-generation activities. This will involve livelihood assessments and training programmes to enhance lucrative skills such as tailoring, handicrafts, weaving, home gardening, and cattle rearing. In addition, business plan training will be conducted, and in-kind support provided thereafter based on the assessment and plans. Ultimately, this project seeks to provide a supportive environment for affected women and men living in the Mullaitivu District, and provide resources to ensure their success.
