Project intervention

With this project, the Family Rehabilitation Centre (FRC )hopes to provide comprehensive psychosocial support to vulnerable individuals in the Northern region of Sri Lanka by addressing social cohesion and widening access to psychosocial support services.

This project is designed to reduce the conflict's negative psychosocial and economic impacts on vulnerable populations in the Northern region of Sri Lanka while improving social cohesion. The project has supportive activities such as increasing access to psychosocial support, providing direct psychosocial support, conducting community outreach, strengthening psychosocial fora, providing refresher training to counsellors, and conducting befriender training and a self-care program. At the project's core is the direct psychosocial support for survivors of the conflict, which involves medical screenings and counselling sessions. Additionally, referrals will be provided to survivors for other services as necessary. Furthermore, the project also includes community outreach activities, such as the formation of Grass Root Level Action Committees (GRLACs) that will conduct community-level awareness workshops and select beneficiaries in the villages. The project will also strengthen the psychosocial fora in the North, helping to bridge ties between the service providers in the districts and the decision-makers in order to improve the psychosocial well-being of the region. In addition, a refresher training program focused on counseling related skills and activities will be provided for teachers in the government school system, as well as befriender training for young people and CSO members. Finally, the project will provide a counselling skills refresher and a self-care program for all the staff members.
